How to Lead and be Led in Worship

One of the most sublime experiences for mortal man is to be allowed to worship God. There is no being greater, no presence more holy and praiseworthy. And corporate worship is a sharing of this awesome experience. When we worship together, we should be drawn closer together, because we are all moving toward the same center – God.
But for corporate worship to take place, for us to worship together, we must have a shared understanding of how to worship God. Furthermore, we must have trained leaders, people who can aid us and lead us in worshiping as God desires, in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
Worship also demands that we know how to follow a leader. We must be able to join
our prayer to that which is said aloud. We must understand what we are supposed to be doing and thinking as we follow our leaders in worship to God.
We have many men here who know how to lead us in worship. We have many members who know how to be led in worship. But, just like many other things, we can all improve in this area. Furthermore, we have young and new Christians who are still learning how to worship, they need to know more about how to lead and be led in worship.

A NEW CLASS BEGINS SEPTEMBER 17th
To this end, the elders have given their consent for us to use our Wednesday evening class to study this important topic – HOW TO LEAD AND BE LED IN WORSHIP.
This class will give opportunity for men who have never led in certain aspects of our worship to learn how. We will study all aspects of worship, and give special attention to the part we play when we lead or when we follow.

CLASS FORMAT
Some part of each class will be set aside for leaders to actually put into practice the things we are studying and actually lead in some aspect of worship. REMEMBER – THIS WILL BE REAL WORSHIP, NOT PRACTICE. YES, WE WILL BE TRYING TO ACQUIRE AND IMPROVE LEADERSHIP ABILITIES, BUT WE DO NOT PRETEND TO WORSHIP. OUR SONGS, PRAYERS, AND LESSONS WILL BE ACTUAL WORSHIP.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREPARE
Men, think of areas of worship where you need more training to be good leaders. This will be the perfect setting for you to try things you haven’t tried before. In this class we all love one another and we are not going to be overly critical. In this setting we need not be embarrassed if we do poorly or make a mistake.
All Christians can use this class to help encourage our leaders to be better leaders. Come prepared to make suggestions to our leaders about what things help you worship and what things may distract or detract from the worship experience. Rusty
